Cuba to declare quarantine in stages

Since Cuba entered the limited indigenous transmission phase, the country will declare quarantine in stages considering Covid-19 behavior, reported this Thursday the National General Staff of Civil Defense.

According to the agency, the isolation measures – which have already been taken in certain locations – include limiting and prohibiting the population’s movement to and from the areas affected by the novel coronavirus.

Also, places where there are found positive cases are the target of growing active enquiries for the detection of new cases, they are disinfected, and patients must be isolated and timely treated.

Such set of measures will be adopted gradually, taking into account the limits of the block where more cases live, including constituency, popular council, municipality and province, in accordance with the progress of Covid-19 disease.

The quarantine declaration follows the technical criteria of the health authority of the Ministry of Public Health and the Plan for the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus, explains a press release from the highest entity of Civil Defense in the country.

The authorities guide the population to responsibly comply with the measures to control the pandemic and to assist health institutions at the first Covid-19 symptoms.

So far, cases of local transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus have been detected in six municipalities in the provinces of Matanzas, Pinar del Rio, Havana, Ciego de Avila, Camagüey and Holguin.

In response, localities such as the Camilo Cienfuegos community in Consolacion del Sur municipality, in the western province of Pinar del Rio, reinforces isolation for over 1,400 inhabitants, which includes food supplies and enquiries.

Likewise, in the neighborhood of El Carmelo and in the Buenos Aires popular council of the Cerro municipality, both in the capital, the movement of people and vehicles is limited and bus stops are disinfested, among other actions.

Meanwhile, the Argentina popular council, from the municipality of Florida, remains in reinforced isolation, after the confirmation there of five Covid-19 cases, so that its residents remain within their geographic area under permanent epidemiological surveillance.

This Wednesday, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero announced that in order to facilitate social distancing, the payment of electricity, water, gas and fines services is postponed for the time being, except for those that can be carried out electronically.

In addition, the provision of services in restaurants and cafes is suspended, in which only the sale of take-away food and home delivery will be maintained, at limited hours.
Up to now, in Cuba there are 457 Covid-19 confirmed cases.
