Ban on charter flights to Cuba damages cuban families
Through his Twitter account, Rodriguez stressed that the new measure by the government of Donald Trump against Cuba is a violation of Cubans’ human rights and prevent US citizens from traveling freely to Cuba.
The measure that affects nine Cuban international airports joined the ranks of 190 measures applied since 2017 by the Washington Government against the Caribbean nation, Granma newspaper published on Tuesday.
This is part of the White House pressure strategy towards the island along with the consular closure of the US Embassy in Havana, the suspension of cruise trips and the persecution against tanker ships that transport oil to Cuba.
More than 600,000 US citizens traveled to Cuba in 2017 and 2018, in addition to half a million Cuban-born US citizens, a figure that reached 552,816 in 2019. This evidences the strengthening of the island’s ties with the Cubans living abroad, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez acknowledged.
