Van Van orchestra attends second day of Salsa Festival in Cuba

The concert of renowned Cuban orchestra Formell y Los Van Van is among the great attraction on Wednesday during the 5th International Salsa Festival, an event that takes place in Havana until March 1.

The performance of the popular band, winner of a 2000 Grammy award for the album “Llego Van Van” (Van Van has arrived), will end the program of the festival at Jose Antonio Echeverria recreational complex’s Club 500, main venue of the event.

Dance groups’ parades and electronic music sessions, followed by the performances of the Manolito Simonet y su Trabuco and Monica Mesa y su Maquina Perfecta orchestras precede the concert of the legendary band, founded by instrumentalist and composer Juan Formell in 1969.

The fifth edition of this festival brings together 19 popular dance music bands of the island, and announces Puerto Rican salsa musician Victor Manuelle as a special guest. Manuelle will perform for the first time in Cuba on March 1.

Organized by the country’s cultural institutions, the program of the event also holds for the next few days the performances of the Alain Perez, Adalberto Alvarez y Su Son and Havana D’ Primera orchestras.
