The Pablo de la Torriente Brau Center celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the El Caimán Barbudo and the Center was the winner of the Cubadisco 2016 Special Award for its collection A Guitarra Limpia
The great Cantata of Troubadours and Poets, devoted to the 50th Anniversary of the Cayman Barbudo magazine, took place last Friday, among the freshness of the yagruma trees which host the House of Poetry and the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Center in Old Havana.
The publication received praise from the young communist League (UJC) and the Ministry of Culture. The poet Victor Casaus talked about all that has happened and he described the context in which the magazine was founded as a contradictory and unique whirl that took place in 1966. And he recognized that this new lively 50-year old issue has to be sought from the clamor of the days in which we live.
So he said: “The friendly and fighting people who are creating the Caimán have now included, in the adjacent pages to WE Are in FAVOR OF, poems by Ivan Gerardo Campanioni, Guillermo Rodriguez Rivera, (…) Felix Contreras, Felix Guerra, Luis Rogelio Nogueras and me, the narrator of this presentation of the Caimán in its 50th (…) ”
Another reason to consider the work of this cultural center during 2016, is the fact that the Center was recently the winner of the Cubadisco Special Award for its collection A Guitarra Limpia, devoted to the new trova, whose manifestation is considered by Victor Casaus as essential in the Cuban culture.
Fiftieth anniversary of the El Caimán Barbudo and Cubadisco Special Award for A Guitarra Limpia, two reasons for celebrating at the Pablo de la Torriente Brau Center.
