Typhoon Hagibis kills 46 in Japan

Typhoon Hagibis has killed 46 people in Japan, while search and rescue operations continue and 16 people have been reported missing.

Among the victims are five Chinese citizens who were part of the crew of a Panamanian ship that capsized in Tokyo Bay on Saturday, as the typhoon struck the Japanese capital.

Media reports note that search and rescue brigades are working with boats and helicopters in the zones affected, due to landslides and overflowing rivers.
The work is ongoing amid warnings of more landslides and persistent floods due to heavy rains.

According to authorities, Japan reported 40 percent of its annual rainfall over the weekend alone.
The rains caused at least 20 rivers to burst their banks and broke ten dams.
