Nursing’s contribution to sustainable development highlighted in Cuba
The 18th Congress of the Cuban Nursing Society opens on Wednesday with some 500 delegates from 11 countries, focused on this sector’s contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Specialists from Brazil, Chile, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Peru, El Salvador, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, the United States and Cuba are attending the Congress, the main objectives of which are to share practical experiences and research as well as make visible professional achievements in healthcare systems and services.
More than 10 events will be held in parallel to the Congress, among them the maternal and child health conference; gerontological symposium, and and a forum on caring for critically ill patients.
Events on oncological nursing and biopsychosocial care for people living with HIV/AIDS will also feature, the latter focused on the best combined prevention measures of infections of this kind and those relating to sexually transmitted infections and hepatitis.
The community nursing symposium will address this service of vital importance in Cuba, characterized by prevention, and the role of the local family doctor and nurse’s office in the primary healthcare system.
