The Gazette of Cuba. A Communicating and Linking Publishing
The Gaceta de Cuba (Gazette of Cuba) is a magazine that captures the attention of its readers, who have maintained with it a very strong relation for years

By Rubén Ricardo Infante
The third Gaceta de Cuba issue of the year was presented in the Sala Villena of the UNEAC. That issue includes in its pages a review of the cultural events of the nation cultural events…
From its cover, Ángel Ramírez’s illustrations invite us to penetrate its pages. To invade those spaces that include a part of contemporary Cuban cultural thought. Gaceta de Cuba is a magazine that catches its readers, who have maintained with it a very strong relation, very close and that is maintained over the years.
The discovery is one of the virtues of each issue number. For any reader attentive to this publishing, the most stimulating of each delivery is the surprise of not knowing which will be the contents to be addressed, which are the themes or the authors that joined the chorus of voices or the focus of these texts.
With that same curiosity I review the index when the last number reaches my hands. Sometimes, I see the moment when the truck arrives where the packages covered with transparent nylon are transported. Then, a while later, I see Norberto Codina passing by with some copies under his arm. Very close to the office the magazines are accumulate, one above the another, and rigorously watched until the afternoon of the presentation.
Occasionally, I managed to cross over the fence and I got a copy. From that moment, I comment with a friend the texts, authors, approaches, disposition, the perspective they defend, a too absolute judgment, something that I find curious or unknown.
Under these motivations I approach to each issue, with the doubt, the expectation of not knowing what the Gaceta de Cuba brings back. The truth is that, in “my home”- as name the house where one was born – I have a large collection of this magazine. On two occasions, I have agreed to lend students the required numbers for diploma work on this publication. Over the years, in the house where I live, a dozen of them have joined, in this way, I can complete the cycle, my affective relationship with Gaceta de Cuba.
Perhaps these impressions overflow the limits of an attentive reader, because, another aspect that distinguishes the magazine is that it has become an inclusive space, where many of the young or provincial authors have access. Of course, under the quality pattern that merits.
This could be also another reason to sustain that affective, sentimental and professional relationship with Gaceta … and many years ago, when I sent my first text to it, it was well received, I mean, it was published and many years later, I keep sending my work like Aureliano Buendía when they took him to see the ice.
Luck for the Cuban culture to be able to count in its large newspaper library with all the issues of La Gaceta de Cuba, in order to tell the story, time and life of the Cubans.
