Military Drills in the Amazon Threaten Venezuela

The so-called Triple Alliance plus United States invade natural sanctuary

Mariela Pérez Valenzuela

The joint military drills, at the invitation of Brazil, in the Amazon poses a serious threat to Venezuela, since, according to analysts, the primary idea is to establish a military base of rapid mobilization for a surprise military attack.

The idea is not crazy. In the military movement, first held in the Amazon despite the discomfort caused to the Brazilian officers, apart from Brazil the armed forces of the United States, Colombia and Peru will be directed from a multinational base they declared as provisional.

The so-called America Unida Operation – more real that of the united right-wingers – began on November 6th and ends on 12th on the grounds of bracing for aid during humanitarian crises and keep up the fight against international drug trafficking, among other unconvincing excuses.

The point for the departure of soldiers, equipment, air force and other specialties in the jungle is in the city of Tabatinga, Brazil, on the border with Leticia, Colombia, and Santa Rosa, Peru, in a place called ” the triple border “, about 700 kms from  the border with Venezuela.

Some observers state that the United States Southern Command is the head of the Amazon Log joint maneuver, created by the Brazilians, which is said to be inspired by similar maneuvers carried out by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Hungary in 2015 , to which the South Americans attended as observers.

Although discretion is absolute, NATO observers can take part in these operations and other Latin American nations may join in the future, such as Argentina (remember that during his presidency, Carlos Menem proclaimed himself the representative of the European organization in the region) Chile and Panama.

America Unida, will probably be the last joint maneuver in 2017 by countries of this region whose progressive governments consider a threat to their national sovereignty with the United States, because during this year such exercises have abounded.

From last June to date, the Southern Command with its air, sea and land forces carried out at least seven trainings with the Defense Ministries of its allies in Latin America, and some NATO member countries, which also long for their share of the rich natural resources of this region, including oil, diamonds, gold, emeralds, gas, lithium, water and medicinal plants.

For the imperialist greed, Venezuela is a long- awaited prey, since it has the largest oil deposits worldwide, it is also an example of the revolutionary resistance to the attacks of the international law. And, for the capitalist ideology, it provides an example that other peoples should not follow.

This year, mainly, the United States and the regional rightwing have deployed their troops and equipment in what observers consider a kind of practice to intervene in Venezuela for alleged humanitarian reasons endorsed by the Organization of American States (OAS), which has failed several times in the attempt.

The former President Barak Obama’s Executive Order is hanging on the Bolivarian Revolution, which in a gesture described as ridicule, to say the least, considered Venezuela an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security of the greatest imperialist power in the world.

On April 6, just days before the terrorist actions that lasted four months and left 124 dead in Venezuela, Commander-in-Chief of the Southern Command Admiral Kurt Tidd  said before the Committee of Armed Services of the Senate of his country that “… the situation in Venezuela is getting worse and could lead to a humanitarian crisis that would demand regional interference”.

On August 23 and 24, in Lima, Peru, one of the strongholds of the conservatives in Latin America, Kurt Tidd met with the military leaders of Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay, in the “7th South American Defense Conference”

In that meeting, according to reports, strategies were drawn up to “face military threats” and “address” what they describe as a crisis in Venezuela.

The meeting was held 12 days after Trump, with his characteristic arrogance, threatened to intervene militarily in the homeland of Simón Bolívar, in a political blackmail based on that country does not hold free elections, which is a flagrant lie.

The United States wants to keep its military power in Latin America and maintains a network of military bases that leaves only a few nations outside, but which are located in the Caribbean, Central America and South America, so that in a few hours it can mobilize hundreds of his troops against any nation he considers an enemy, as is the Venezuelan case.

Although there are no official figures that indicate the number of these platforms in Latin America, it is estimated that they amount to at least 85, according to scholars of the subject.

Venezuela and its revolutionary people have rejected the sanctions and threats dictated by Washington and are immersed in the consolidation of their socialist political process.
