Centenary of the October Socialist Revolution

Centenary of the October Socialist Revolution

By Rosa Pérez López

The most historic turning-point of humanity took place a century ago at the Winter Palace gates: the social revolution ceased to be a utopia and began to be considered a practice in the weakest link of the imperialist chain.

The beloved dream of conquering the sky was fulfilled as never before because socialism ushered in the most human and fair social system ever known by the mankind. Never like in that October when the theoretical legacy of Karl Marx and Frederick Engels came into fruition in the emancipating drive of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and the Bolshevik legion was the second in supporting the effort to build a world without exploited or exploiters.

One hundred years have passed since the triumph of the Great October Socialist Revolution and, in line with the new times, it continues to spread its scientific lessons that by definition characterize a social system whose premise is the wellfare of the humankind. In the meantime, capitalism continues to show-and with ever more voracity- that the power of the few over the subyugated majority will never be the option to guarantee the most important aspirations of equality and social justice of humanity.

History is day by day setting its conclusions for the peoples to turn eyes to the social formulas that constitute their only alternative of hope. Yet in the world prevails enough disparities, injustices, calamities and hardships for those men and women of goodwill to find in the centenary of that victorious October the inspiration and the necessary reasons to continue conquering the sky.
