Unlike what is stated by erroneous thinking, America is more than a single country. Some hegemonic trends have tried to use the name of the continent just in reference to North America and some imperial policies.

By fortune there are spaces that have assumed the responsibility of studying the real sense of what we call America. One of the main purposes of Casa de las Américas is to preserve the cultural traditions of our peoples in the midst of a favorable environment for the dissemination of original values.

Va por la Casa is among the successful actions in the promotion of the culture of our continent. The event is convened by Casa de las Américas and this year it will take place until July 21.

Casa undertakes actions for a great network among the peoples to boost productive talks. The coexistence of artistic expressions and projects related to sociologic, literary and ethnic findings allows to approach effectively to shades of the American culture.

This year Va por la Casa returns to Arte en la Rampa Trade Fair. It likewise proposes the summer course on Introducción a mujeres y culturas en Nuestra América (Introduction to women and cultures in Our America) and places special attention to Colombia based on one of the literary masterpieces of that country: Cien años de soledad (One hundred Years of Solitude)

Another interesting proposal comes thanks to the cooperation between Casa de las Américas and the Office of the Historian of the City. The renowned Rutas y Andares project sets in motion tours for approaching significant heritage areas.

This summer is a good opportunity to approach elements related to all those who live in the American continent. Casa convenes with a premise which accompanies its extensive work: to unveil the outlines of a horizon which is ours.

Thanks to this institution we learn how to look with our own eyes what has been always ours. We should recall Martí when he said: I am son of America, I owe myself to her
