Havana’s Electoral Commission Constituted
The Provincial Electoral Commission of this capital was constituted this Monday in the Anti-imperialist Grandstand as a preliminary step to the elections next year

With the presence of the President of the National Electoral Commission, Alina Balseiro Gutiérrez and the Member of the Cuba’s Communist Party Central Committee politburo and First Secretary of the Party in the capital Mercedes López Acea the Provincial Electoral Commission was constituted in the Anti-imperialist Grandstand on Monday as a preliminary step to the 2018 elections.
In the constitution of the Commission, the Secretary of the Provincial People’s Power Assembly quoted the agreement, which according to electoral law 72 is established as the norm for the constitution of the said body, whose activity will allow to coordinate the work with the rest of the municipal commissions and polling stations before and during the elections.
President of the capital’s provincial commission Roberto Alejandro Cárdenas Sánchez, in reading the oath told the rest of the members the said commission about the responsibility their positions demand as guarantors of the constitution and the electoral law.
He also stressed the unconditionality and transparency that should characterize the process, in view of the veracity of the information provided during the elections. Cárdenas Sánchez stressed that no opinions, suggestions, or candidates to be elected should be issued during the elections.
Meanwhile, the Vice-President of the governing body in the capital, Osmín Abel Camejo referred to the ideas of the Revolution’s historic leader, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the principle of democracy and popular participation in the exercise of Government and the election of its rulers.
“The People’s Power system has more than 40 years of experience and represents the tradition of sovereignty and independence of the Cuban nation, together with the program of social and economic measures that define the socialist character of the country,” said Osmín Camejo.
Noting that next year’s election process will take place amid the new scenario of relations with the United States, following the aggressive and disloyal intervention of President Donald Trump and the ongoing changes of the current Economic and social development model of the island.
The provincial government of the capital plans to establish in the next few days the various municipal commissions that will govern the public commission of elections in each of the territories of Havana.
