Fiesta with drums, joy for life, and vital celebration for the power of water are signs of a tribute from rumba to the African memory in the national culture.
Timbalaye is that, the past retold from African rhythms which shaped the soul of our nationality and forged many aspects of our identity.
Regla was the chosen space. It could not be otherwise.Regla is cradle of culture, avatar of resistance, a bridge between two poles: land and sea. And that locality of Havana has hosted the event Timbalaye 2016, a festivity which gives account of the spiritual wealth handed down by the Africansand their descendants for the Cuban history to this day.
The mooring point for the locals to move overwater through the mythical Havana Bay, was the spot chosen to commemorate, with the presence of members of the community, theGuaracheros de Regla and the Logros de mi Barrio artistic project the 130th anniversary of the abolition of slavery and the contribution of founders of the secret Abakuá society constituted there 180 years ago.
President of the Association of Cuban Writers and Artists, poet Miguel Barnet was paid homage; while the Timbalaye organization in charge of promoting from rumba the values of national culture, acknowledged the Municipal People’s Power Assembly, together with poet Nancy Morejón andNisiaAgüero for her support in the defense of identity.
Music made vibrate the ancestors’ memory and allowed to envision new challenges for the future.
