A Permanent Responsibility

Cautions must be maximized when you are on the road is not a matter of a certain stage, it’s a permanent responsibility for drivers, passengers and pedestrians

Summer holiday, during which children, youth and most adults enjoy a deserve rest, going around the clock through streets and avenues in search of recreational centers of their choice, is almost coming to an end.

This has been a time when cautions have been maximized for going by the roads, either as a driver, passenger or pedestrian. However, news reported by the media in the months of July and August show that it’s not this way all the time. Despite all information given, the imprudence, mistakes and irresponsibility are still present in a few minds.

Summer is coming to an end, and perhaps many think that it’s no longer necessary to exercise caution on the road. However, I assure you it would be a great mistake because of the number of children and young people who go to school because the beginning and development of the new school year.

Parents who are in a hurry taking the child to school on time and afterward arriving early to work or grandparents who even with physical limitations has taking this task for them.

Those children who are on their own, sometimes quickly, other distracted in conversation with the little classmate, perhaps with something very fashionable as playing with the mobile phone which alienates from what goes around, or listening to music with both cell hearing aids, making the outer space a world of silence for any audible alert.

That place next to school showing the School Zone sign is not enough where it’s  mandatory to slow down under penalty of a fine to a serious infringement. Cuban students, children and young people, who represent the future of Cuba, are everywhere at the time of entering and going out of school.

Thus, dear vehicle drivers, passengers and pedestrians: we can understand that to be prudent and responsible when we go to travel on public roads is not something for a brief period but something permanent for 365 days a year and 24 hours a day, is an attitude established in the minds of everyone which have to be passed on to those around us.

Only then we will really giving the ¡Vía a la Vida! (Way to Life!)
