The fifth month of the year is always a pleasant time for theater lovers, because an important platform of shows is held during May.
Mayo Teatral (theater performances during May) meets in each edition relevant performances within the stage panorama in Cuba and in the continent. Theaters are full by the audience which is eager to access to the Latin American theater.
Thus, the present edition of the event will be held from May 13 to 22, and it offers, as usual, an accurate approach to the Cuban identity as a region. The eagerly awaited event brings reflections on South American thought. And, stages will be the ideal place to set the Cuban essence up, as individuals interwoven by traditions and shared interests.
The Season of Latin-American and Caribbean Theater counts on the general management and international curating by the theater specialist Vivian Martínez Tabares. The participation of prominent theater groups is already announced, which will increase the quality of the event with their performance and attendance.
The La Candelaria Colombian project, the Yuyachkani Cultural Group from Peru and Gayumba Teatro from the Dominican Republic, will be present in this fiesta of the theater. For the Cuban part, the Argos Theater Company, directed by Carlos Celdrán and El Ciervo Encantado, directed by Nelda Castillo, will offer performances.
In addition, the eagerly awaited Meeting of the Latin-American and Caribbean Playwrights, will be held. The meeting will take place on Monday 16 and Tuesday 17, two days to deal with theater through the dialogue and exchange of creative experiences. Specialists on the theory and research of the world theater will participate in the meeting, and they will talk about the theater born and developed from the Latin-American and Caribbean vigor.
“Mayo Teatral has been hosting, tthroughout its editions, the works by groups from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Puerto Rico, and notable projects like Malayerba and Teatro de los Andes which have been present in previous seasons.
So, days of theater are announced in Havana, a hug between the Cuban creations and other creations designed from the vision of the continent which also belongs to the Cuban people, from the stage.
